In 2017, the 2-year-old boy died under the beatings of Williams, sentenced for 20 years in detention. Karim, Younès' uncle, was on trial this j

Karim warned the prison administration: “Be careful, if you put me in the same building, I will crack.

Last September, the 26-year-old inmate was transferred to the D1 wing of the Fleury-Mérogis remand center (Essonne).

Karim goes backwards: he knows that he risks meeting Williams, his ex-brother-in-law also imprisoned.

And with whom he feeds a stubborn dispute.

On July 10, 2020, Williams was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Assize Court of Evry, for "usual violence on a 15-year-old minor resulting in death without intention of giving it", after the death of Younès, 2 years old, the son of his ex-girlfriend.

He appealed against this conviction.

"Kill him !

Kill him !"

Karim never saw Younès, since he was in detention when he was born and died.

He was never able to attend the trial either.

Despite everything, he "wants to know what happened to his nephew".

So, this September 7, when he crosses paths with Williams for a walk, his uncle cracks.

He walks up to Williams, who anticipates and hits him on the temple with a white sock weighted with glass.

A crowd of about thirty inmates forms.

One of them holds Williams by the arms while Karim punches and knees him.

" Kill him !

Kill him !

The others shout, according to a supervisor.

Other detainees, not implicated by justice, take over.

According to surveillance cameras from the remand center, the beating lasts one minute and 37 seconds.

Williams gets away with a 12-day temporary break from work, the result of multiple blows to the face and body.

Four months in prison

This Thursday, Karim appeared at the criminal court of Evry-Courcouronnes for this assault.

He was sentenced to four months in prison and will have to pay 1200 euros to his victim for moral damage for "violence in meetings".

He was in a state of recidivism after having already been sentenced on February 14, 2019 for identical facts.

The two detainees were taken from Fleury-Mérogis for the occasion.

Karim, tall with long hair, measures Williams from his cubicle.

The victim, in tracksuit, sits handcuffed and under good escort on the bench of the civil parties.

"I just wanted to be accountable for the death of my nephew," explains Karim, in a calm voice.

I wanted a right of reply, the why and the how.

My nephew, I never knew him.

I only know the truth about his death from articles.

So when he told me he hadn't done anything, I saw red.

"

"You shouldn't put me near him"

According to Karim, Williams told the other inmates that Younes died in a car accident, and not from severe head trauma and repeated violence.

"As he lied, the others let off steam on him," the uncle understands.

"I had been warned on a walk that he wanted to hit me," Williams replied.

He pitched everyone's skull against me.

Since then, people look at me strange.

"

If the prison administration had not transferred Karim to the D1 wing, the two men might never have crossed paths.

“I pointed out that I shouldn't be near him,” assures Karim.

I was told that I would not meet him because we would not be on the same floor.

"" There were malfunctions in the prison administration, "said his lawyer.

Especially since Karim is under a ban to come into contact with Williams and his family.

Because this is not the first incident between the two parties.

"I didn't even share a hello with my nephew"

In 2017, the first had already violently assaulted the family of the second.

He had notably struck Williams' twin brother thinking he was hitting the murderer of his nephew ... who was in fact in pre-trial detention.

"He attacked my disabled father, my mother, my twin brother, my little sister, they all went to the hospital, we don't sleep anymore…"

“I don't sleep either!

retorts Karim.

His family has memories with my nephew, me nothing, only photos, I haven't even shared a hello with him.

Being in the same walk as someone who killed a member of your family is hard… ”

“There is a particular context, 20 years of criminal imprisonment for acts of extreme gravity, recalls the prosecutor.

But the facts judged today are morally serious, because Mr. M. wanted to substitute private justice for the justice of the people.
