Coach Gedi Sugzda from VfB Hallbergmoos is looking forward to the assistant coaching job with the Lithuanian national soccer team.

He gets support from the club.

Hallbergmoos

- Whether Hansi Flick from FC Bayern Munich will soon be the German national coach is currently the favorite discussion among football fans in this country.

In the case of Gediminas Sugzda, the topic is already through: The 52-year-old is now acting as assistant coach of the Lithuanian national team, but will link this commitment with that of the national league club VfB Hallbergmoos.

A special day in the career of the former professional footballer - he played at Zalgiris Vilnius, Lok Moscow, Carl Zeiss Jena and Rot-Weiß Erfurt, among others - was September 5th, 1998. On this day he played his first and only international match at 0: 0 the Lithuanians against Scotland.

Now, 23 years later, he is returning to his home country as assistant coach to Valdas Urbonas.

The first missions are the games against Kosovo, Switzerland and the great football power Italy from March 22nd to 31st.

"I'm looking forward to supporting my home country," says Sugzda.

Eight games in the World Cup qualification, two matches in the Baltic Cup and three test games are on the schedule.

In the qualifying for Qatar, Lithuania will play a fixed starting position with Italy, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Northern Ireland as well as one in the playoffs.

At the end of the month, the matches against the Swiss and the Italians will be serious.

This is how VfB Hallbergmoos Sugzdas absences

For the footballers of VfB Hallbergmoos, the absence of the head coach will have almost no negative effects in view of the team structure.

Co-trainer Peter Beierkuhnlein will then often slip into the responsible role.

With the experienced team manager Fredi Ostertag, the sporting director Anselm Küchle or captain Dennis Hammerl, there is still a lot of expertise behind this for the Sugzda representative.

Küchle is convinced of the structures of VfB: “It goes without saying that we support Gedi in this.

We have an extremely close exchange in the function team and will compensate for Gedi's few days off very well. "

Küchle: "Gedi will have great experiences."

The coach is looking forward to the dual role in the second division of the national league and the national team in his home country.

Sugzda would like to incorporate the experience he will gain on his international trips into his daily work at VfB Hallbergmoos.

"Gedi will gain great experience, which he will in turn pass on to our players," says Küchle with certainty.

The footballers at VfB Hallbergmoos are proud to have a small place in international football through their prominent coach.

With the coach signed in the 2018/19 season, the club has already extended it for the coming 2021/22 season and would like to continue working with him in the long term.

After all, Sugzda has already led his ex-club TuS Holzkirchen into the Bayernliga during his four-year commitment from 2014 to 2018 and then managed to stay in the league in the first Bayernliga year with twelfth place.

VfB would like to take a similar path with the experienced coach.

Gediminas Sugzda would be all too happy to say goodbye to his national team as Bayernliga head coach in the future.
