Fans of the "Ray Donovan" series were very surprised last year when the Showtime cable network canceled the series at the end of its seventh season, without giving the creators advance notice that would allow them to plan the end.
Such cancellation after seven years of piety on the part of viewers, and more in a suspenseful scene, no longer happens in the current era of television, so the puzzling decision has raised a lot of eyebrows, not only from fans of the series but also from industry figures and critics.
Since the cancellation until today, there have been many speculations that Showtime will not be able to afford to ignore the allegations, and will return the series to a final short season or a film that will close the plot.
The second option is the one that does happen, the network now announces.
Live Schreiber will return to the role of the menacing and quiet Pixar, John White will return to play his father, and apart from them, the rest of the regular cast will also stabilize.
Schreiber himself will write the final film alongside the series' showrunner, David Hollander, and filming is expected to begin later this year in New York.
The plot will continue directly from the end of the events of the seventh season: Mickey escapes and Ray is determined to find and stop him before he can cause another massacre.
At the same time, the plot will go back 20 years, in a series of flashbacks that will describe the source of the conflict between the Donovan family and Sullivan, as well as Mickey's experiences.
Like the other seasons of the series, in Israel the film is expected to reach yes.
