From March 25 to April 1, 2019, the Graduate School of Lingnan University randomly interviewed 1,028 young people aged 18 to 35 by means of online questionnaires, and divided them into three income groups to assess Hong Kong people's arrival in Dawan. The willingness of district development, more than half of the interviewees have visited cities in the Greater Bay Area.
It was found that among the interviewees, due to the low wages for work in the Mainland, if they scored an average of 4.06 points in the three groups with a full score of 5, they were worried about the Internet restriction in the Mainland (average 4.02 points) and had concerns about the development of the Greater Bay Area; Respondents are also generally confident that the Greater Bay Area will “prosper in the future” and “bring development opportunities for young people in Hong Kong”. Both average scores are higher than 3; and they are generally neutral on whether they will move to the Greater Bay Area. Attitude, the average score is 2.74.
It is recommended to visit cities in the Greater Bay Area to reduce psychological distance.
Zhu Yuefeng, Assistant Professor of Research at Ling University Graduate School, said that Hong Kong people’s perception of the Greater Bay Area is related to psychological distance, which creates a sense of time distance for the uncertainty of the future development of the Greater Bay Area. The border inspections between the two places create a sense of spatial distance, and different political and economic systems and lifestyles build a sense of social distance. "Psychological distance inevitably reduces Hong Kong people’s positive perception of the Greater Bay Area, and thus reduces the number of people in the Greater Bay Area. Lingnan University Vice President and Dean of Graduate School Mok Jiahao suggested that policy makers should increase their willingness from the perspective of changing the psychological distance of Hong Kong people, such as increasing their enthusiasm, and promoting field visits and elites from both places to high-income people.
