Requisitioned by the prefecture, the striking garbage collectors refused to submit to this decision. Uncollected garbage accumulates

The strike of the garbage collectors of the company Derichebourg responsible for the collection of waste in a part of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) became even tougher on Monday, December 28, while more than 900 tonnes of un-collected garbage have accumulated since on December 17 in the streets of three districts of the city.

Faced with this social conflict which is bogged down, the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône decided on Monday to requisition striking garbage collectors, a decision that has remained a dead letter.

According to the prefecture, the requisition order "aims to urgently resolve this health situation which penalizes and endangers the inhabitants of the 2nd, 15th and 16th arrondissements".

The strikers, however, refused the requisition and filed an interim relief before the administrative court of Marseille on the grounds that "it is impossible to requisition employees in the private sector, even if they exercise a public service mission".

Eight skips installed for the inhabitants

The Aix-Marseille metropolis has announced the installation of eight dumpsters in the most affected areas, "so that residents are no longer forced to throw their trash cans on the public highway".

As of this weekend, she also sent three dump trucks from another company to pick up under the protection of police cars.

The strikers have been asking for the departure of their local management for ten days, which they accuse of "harassment".

The latter retorts that "locally, a certain number of these employees do not wish to be subject to the rules of a normal company" and regrets that the strikers refused the proposal to "revise the internal regulations and reset the disciplinary files to zero. ".
