A member of Iran's security forces is suspected of involvement in the assassination of senior nuclear scientist Muhsin Fahrizadeh, the country's intelligence minister said yesterday (Monday).
"The person who made the first preparations for the assassination was a member of the armed forces," Mahmoud Alwi said in an interview with state television, without elaborating.
He said it was not possible for the intelligence ministry to "supervise the armed forces".
Fahrizadeh was traveling on a highway outside the capital Tehran with security on November 27, and died from gunfire.
According to Iranian authorities, Fahrizadeh served as deputy minister in the Ministry of Defense and acted on the issue of "nuclear defense."
