Pastor Jan-Christoph Vogler has canceled the face-to-face services in the parishes of the Annunciation Altenerding and St. Vinzenz Klettham.

With this he also reaps incomprehension.

District - church at home, blessing at home, even communion at home: the corona crisis has also led to creative solutions in the Catholic Church.

Dealing with the pandemic-related challenges could hardly be more complex.

While some clergy offer additional services for smaller groups, others broadcast the mass on the Internet.

And still others do not celebrate any more services at all for the time being.

Pastor Jan-Christoph Vogler has “decided to discontinue attendance services until further notice”, as can be read on the websites of the parishes of the Parishes of the Annunciation Altenerding and St. Vinzenz Klettham.

He calls on the believers to use the many streaming offers on the Internet or the offers on television.

There is not a word to be read about his motives.

Even when asked by our newspaper, Pastor Vogler does not want to explain his decision.

It was clear to him that not every parishioner would like it, but: “I don't want to explain my reasons,” he says on the phone.

“No comment.” At least Vogler seems to have explained himself to the parish council.

Its chairwoman Anna-Lisa Burgmair emphasizes that she can understand both sides, the believers who regret the canceled services, but also the arguments of the pastor and deputy dean.

Vogler's decision is met with incomprehension by his colleagues.

"We are all looking for solutions how we can implement the latest specifications for church services," says district dean Michael Bayer and speaks of the newly imposed obligation for FFP2 masks that should not be worn for longer than 75 minutes.

The service may have to be shorter.

“Not doing anything at all is the worst option for me.

I can't imagine that for myself, ”says Bayer, who preaches in St. Emmeram Moosinning.

Nevertheless, he does not want to judge Pastor Vogler.

Every congregation is different, every church, every concept.

“I'm more than surprised,” says Dorfen dean Josef Kriechbaumer, responding to the news of Vogler's decision.

“I can't understand that at all, but he has the giant church in Klettham!” He adds, shaking his head.

Kriechbaumer himself wants to offer his flocks in the Isen parish association as good as possible familiar structures.

That means: Face-to-face fairs with a reduced number of visitors and in compliance with the rules of distance, also regularly in the small branch churches;

musical accompaniment by changing ensembles, as the congregation is currently not allowed to sing;

Streaming church services on the internet;

spiritual impulses via email newsletter.

“We stubbornly adhere to the instructions from the ordinariate and only do what is allowed.

But we're pushing that to the limit, ”says Kriechbaumer.

Church services are still allowed, and FFP2 masks are now mandatory for all participants aged 15 and over.

During the crisis in particular, Kriechbaumer experiences that many parishioners are very grateful that they can celebrate a mass together.

Just as others are happy to be able to switch to the worship service at home via the Internet.

Pastor Christoph Stürzer has meanwhile almost perfected the latter.

Since Easter he has been broadcasting services in the parish and pilgrimage church of Maria Tading.

You can even get the carol singing blessing with a click, and communion is delivered to your home with a prayer sheet.

And believers not only appreciate his podcasts with spiritual impulses from Stürzer's parish association Maria Tading.

It is unusual for the entire area of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising to be completely eliminated.

“From our side there was and is no recommendation to suspend church services in general”, informs their press officer Ursula Hinterberger when our newspaper asked.

On the contrary, "our concern as a church is, especially in these challenging times, to be there for people in as diverse a way as possible and to support them with pastoral care."

Nevertheless, Pastor Vogler did not act wrongly either.

According to the ordinariate, the decision on the offer of worship is made by those responsible on site.
