"official".

A short word, four letters in all, all dripping with contempt and ridicule.

From Popitz, the annoying and exhausting bureaucrat who recognizes this, through Joachim Stoff, the melancholy Swiss from "The Clerk's Diary", Dudu Geva's funny-sad comic, to Shaul Meridor and the Turner-Eyal-Eyal Foundation - a clerk is a small, gray man, one who loves his cup of tea Exactly at the same point on the table and knocks with excessive force with one of the rubber seals placed next to the documents.

This is a clerk, a nameless rag whose whole job is to expedite proceedings.

Or delay them, depending on how you look at it.

In general, "clerk" is an amorphous word like "decision makers".

There is not really a real person behind it.

The first pictures in "Fact" (Rainbow 12) that aired yesterday were of Meridor in football - first a game with friends, then documented in a Betar game. The most popular there is. Turner-Eyal in leisure moments in a session with her children. The most motherly there is. A conscious and deliberate choice. In one moment, the editors dropped the ground under the image of the "clerk" who was glued to two. Not officials, but people like me and you - smiling, sad, shedding tears, even offended. The phrase "I took a deep breath" or "I was hurt"? Is a person allowed to work in a government office at all, and one that is closest to the people who run the country, if he has this trait?

Meridor and Turner on the conduct of the Treasury: "Dreamed"

To the full article

They discovered that there are people in government offices who can be harmed.

Hence the plan already ran with the narrative designed for it.

It was easy to believe both Meridor and Turner-Eyal.

It was even easier to buy their pain and feel a slight tremor when Meridor threw out the sentence "This is what economies look like on the way down," or when he told how Minister Katz demanded that he play with the numbers.

It was easy to identify with Turner-Eyal, before and especially after Katz's extremely disgusting and patronizing reaction, to which we will return later.

It was easy to see the Good Guys in them, facing a powerful man operated as a puppet by the Prime Minister.

After all, it's always fun to identify with the underdog, especially if he's human.

The truth, as always, is not absolute.

Economics is an area where there are no winners.

No matter what solution you come up with, someone will get hurt.

I’ve had to deal with economists and statisticians in my life, these are types who can be very annoying.

Numbers are their whole world and they will do anything to prove them right on the decimal point.

And there is also a trait that sets them all apart: they are stingy.

Not with their money, worse - with the money you deserve.

Meridor himself said he is the one who always says 'no'.

He annoyed a lot of people as the teddy bear for Allah, because for every "why yes" argument presented the other side.

If Meridor had won his struggles, many Israeli citizens might have been in much greater trouble now.

And Turner-Eyal?

She was in the treasury for three months.

How can you judge, for better or worse, a person who has held office for less than 100 days?

So Meridor and Turner-Eyal were not perfect, and it could be that they really brought up the section, who knows, maybe even in football he plays Meridor is one of those villains who never goes down to the defense, and yet all of them treating them as enslaved slaves was criminal.

A clerk in such a position is not a rubber stamp.

He is a person who has to make decisions and make fates.

Is he really supposed to be a "gatekeeper"?

This is probably a matter of interpretation.

And yet, he should not accept landings and immediately submit the other cheek.

The trouble, and this is something they both admitted with surprising sincerity, is that they did not understand in real time that the man who expects them to straighten out is a clerk himself.

Had Israel Katz been operating in an autonomous space, it is likely that his reactions and moves would have been different.

He was, apparently, less nervous, not to mention vulgar in his treatment of the two.

He would also pass a budget, even listening to Meridor's opinion.

Agree or disagree with her, at least would have devoted some degree of attention.

But Katz is exactly the figure he expected from his subjects: doing the word of the chief master.

official.

He could not move a budget because of the card his master held closest to his chest (thank you, blue-and-white jurists, for arranging this escape hatch for him).

Think of yourself as an officer.

You have received an order and you are supposed to pass it down.

The workers below you are building muscle, will you not try to kick them out with all your might?

So he threw more nonsense into the air.

Anyone still care?

Miki Zohar (Photo: Official website, Danny Shem Tov Spokeswoman)

It was not the highest quality or most exciting "fact" transmitter, but Omri Assenheim is like a pizza - even when he is not at his peak he is still good.

He managed to extract some follicles that in other reality would have put an entire country on barricades.

The trouble is that we have become so used to it, that a sentence like Katz's "play with the numbers", perhaps the economic statement, as it has been said, the most scandalous in the history of the Ministry of Finance, no longer excites us.

When Mickey Zohar hears about a budget of 411 billion shekels and says "let's do 413", without understanding or even pretending to understand the meaning of an additional two billion, all we have left is to smile for a moment about another show of affection without attributing hidden meanings to it.

The Ministry of Finance, the national treasury of the State of Israel, is torn to shreds and empty of talent, but for us it is just another curiosity that is received with equality.

And perhaps this was the real greatness of "Fact" - to take an article that in the days of Benjamin Netanyahu as finance minister would never have passed, and present it as a moldy anecdote in the days of that Netanyahu as prime minister.

This is our life today, a collection of meaningless anecdotes, no?

We do not feel the ground bubbling beneath us.

The shekel is still strong, people are buying new cars, booking vacations for the day after the closure and flocking to the black shops on Black Friday, but it could be that as in the "money machine", the day will come and we will remember those officials who warned us and there was no one to listen.

Not a chauvinist, but a patron with unfortunate statements.

Israel Katz (Photo: Reuven Castro)

The women's organizations came out on Minister Katz.

His reaction was clumsy, rude and embarrassing, but I'm not sure it came from a chauvinistic place.

It is indeed packaged in heavy layers of patronage, and patronage carries with it a lot of toxic side effects.

Much more than the reference to Turner-Eyal's maternity leave, his statement that she brought it with him to the Ministry of Finance "to educate her" stood out in her disgust.

You are not mentoring a person who goes with you for 16 years, you are supposed to trust him, entrust him with performance tasks, leave him as your right hand.

I do not know if Turner-Eyal was worthy of her role.

I'm sure Katz did not deserve her.
