(ANSA) - ROME, 02 MAR - Scholarships funded by the "Passito della Solidarity", a project created and developed by the producers of the Pantelleria Doc Consortium and aimed at supporting in their studies the young people who believe in the future of the island's viticulture, will be awarded this summer .
The initiative was born in September 2018 when the Marco De Bartoli company suffered the theft of the raisins just produced after the harvest in Pantelleria. The episode, with the donation by the island's producers of a share of their raisin production to the De Bartoli to allow them to produce the Passito of that vintage, gave birth to the "Passito della Solidarity", with part of the revenues deriving from the sale destined to finance the scholarships to support young people from Pantelleria who will study viticulture and enology "and who can be - explains a note - the protagonists of the generational change on the island". It is recalled that "that of Pantelleria is in fact a heroic viticulture that has to deal with the need for a contribution of skilled and highly motivated labor". It is also specified that "on the island of sun and wind, the agricultural practice of growing Zibibbo with sapling has received the prestigious Unesco recognition and for this extraordinary intangible heritage to have a future, it is essential that young people study viticulture and then return to the island to make the most of the skills acquired ".
