Zero hour at Schalke 04: What happens after the radical cut?

Among other things, a new coach has to be found again - who is now found in Dimitrios Grammozis.

Update from March 3rd, 8:18 am:

Now everything is clear!

Dimitrios Grammozis is the new Schalke coach.

And he should also lead the resurgence project, in case S04 actually has to move into the second division - thanks to a clause, his contract is also valid for the football lower house.

Schalke confirmed the commitment of the former Darmstadt 98 coach until 2022 on Tuesday evening.

"We are convinced that we have found the right coach for the last third of the season," said the new sports manager Peter Knäbel.

"We all know about the sporting situation, but regardless of that there are still eleven Bundesliga games to be played - and we want to play them as successfully as possible." Grammozis spoke of "huge desire for this task".

Schalke 04: Who will be the major successor?

Mega candidates on the list

First report from March 1st, 12.12 p.m .:

Gelsenkirchen - It was the absolute emergency brake: Schalke 04 * fired coach Christian Gross *, sports director Jochen Schneider, team manager Sascha Riether and athletics trainer Werner Leuthard.

The unprecedented sporting descent is now to be ended with a fresh start.

But the question is: who is doing this job?

This season alone, three coaches (not counting interim coach Huub Stevens) tried to pull the cart out of the mud - all of them crashed.

We have created a list of possible candidates - one of them has already offered himself, another is

shortly before the signature

Steffen Baumgart (SC Paderborn)

With his authentic and direct manner, the 49-year-old would probably fit in well with the miners.

After the season he would be without a contract - his contract with SC Paderborn is running out.

So he could take over in the second or first division in the new season, depending on whether Schalke still manages to resurrect.

In Paderborn he shows that he can make a lot out of a little.

Peter Neururer (without association)

The veteran coach was already 69 games on the Schalke sideline - but that was more than 20 years ago.

His last coaching job at VfL Bochum was six years ago.

Neururer would be on fire: “I've said 1000 times that I help when Schalke needs me.

That's not a question for me. ”There are already signals, but“ there have to be signals from the right people. ”Even if it would be well received by some fans - an obligation is rather unlikely.

Dimitrios Grammozis (without association)

The decision was made between himself and Manuel Baum after David Wagner was dismissed.

In the end it was Baum, now the 42-year-old could get into conversation again.

According to information from the

kicker

, the name is already being discussed on Schalke.

Grammozis, however, does not yet have a wealth of experience, last season he coached the second division SV Darmstadt for a year.

According to information from the

Bild

, there were now signs on Tuesday that Grammozis will take over the miners immediately.

He is said to be on the sideline for the remaining eleven games and then tackle the project for promotion.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dr.

Jens Buchta said on Monday: “We have to think beyond the season for every personnel decision that has yet to be made.” Will Grammozis still sign today?

Uwe Neuhaus (without club)

The promotion hero has not been a trainer at Arminia Bielefeld since Monday.

After four defeats in five second round games, Neuhaus had to vacate his post.

The dismissal is not met with understanding everywhere - after all, Bielefeld still has every chance of staying up.

After two years on the Alm, the 61-year-old would be free - will Schalke strike?

Domenico Tedesco (Spartak Moscow)

The 35-year-old was the last successful coach of Schalke 04. In 2017/18 he surprisingly led the team to the runner-up, only to be fired after a catastrophic start to the season.

Tedesco's contract with Spartak Moscow expires in the summer - so he could take over for the new season.

Ralf Rangnick (without club)

Despite his successful time at Schalke from 2011 to 2015, he does not enjoy a good reputation among many fans.

One of the reasons for this is his commitment to RB Leipzig *.

From a purely sporting point of view, Rangnick would be most likely to be able to achieve success.

A return is still unlikely because the Swabian will simply get better offers than Schalke.
