Shaken baby syndrome: a police officer arrested for the death of his 3-month-old daughter

Thirteen days ago, when the 3-month-old baby arrived at the San Luis hospital, the pediatricians who revived her requested a brain scan.

When they obtained the result, something made them suspect that they could be facing the "

shaken baby syndrome

" and they did not hesitate to report it: the patient died at 96 hours.

This Sunday, they

arrested dad.

Penal Court No. 2 of San Luis ordered the arrest of a San Luis police officer who was being investigated for the death of his daughter.

Danilo Sarmiento (32) is accused of the crime of "

homicide aggravated by the relationship,

" according to the Diario de la República.

It was the investigating judge Ariel Parrillis who requested the arrest of the dead baby's father.

And this noon, policemen from the Homicide Department, dependent on the General Directorate of Investigations, made the arrest.

The baby's father, accused of being the author of the injuries that led to the baby's death, works in the San Luis Police and his superiors

immediately

separated him from the force

when they learned that he was being investigated.

That tragic February 15, Sarmiento took his only daughter, 3 months old, to the Central Hospital of San Luis: she was suffering from cardiorespiratory arrest.

On February 19, the baby died of brain and retinal injuries, consistent with the "shaken baby syndrome": a form of

child abuse or violence

.

The medical studies performed on the baby determined that she

did not suffer from any pre-existing

or associated

disease

that could cause the symptoms that caused her death.

The police officer accused of killing his daughter will be investigated by the judge this Monday.
