A young start-up set up its first self-service office in a Daily Monop 'in January. The inhabitants of the 17th arrondissement must have been intrigued by this cube of 2 meters by 1.20 meters which landed one fine morning in their Daily Monop 'in the rue des Ternes.

Even more, when they noticed that some customers of the store were entering only to leave it an hour later as if nothing had happened.

This unusual cube is a cabin or rather a "

kabin

".

Adrien Lemaire, the co-founder of Kabin, has made the installation of these modules his specialty.

Since the end of January, the Kabin company has been offering “

a self-service office solution at the bottom of the house”

.

For the young start-up, the idea was born before the health crisis with the observation that digital technology was increasingly shaping the relationship between work and employment, particularly through

“two movements”

.

The first being "

leaving the office towards teleworking

" which is nowadays generalized by health restrictions and the second "

nomadization",

a more flexible relationship to the workplace.

Simple and practical use

The "

kabin

" is perfectly insulated thermally and acoustically and 4 people can be comfortably installed.

This tiny meeting room has a price, however: to occupy it for an hour, you will have to pay 15 euros.

For Adrien Lemaire, inspiration came in part from “

micromobility

”, all this equipment that can be easily rented via an application and which allows short trips such as scooters, bicycles and electric scooters.

The Kabin application, in a similar logic, allows via a geolocation service to locate the cabins available around you and simply book a slot, in a few clicks.

Are these cabins attractive?

Throughout the month of January, the Daily Monop 'module - the first installed - allowed the observation and study of the behavior of 250 users in total.

Everyone who is interested in it sees a plus in their weekly career,”

explains Adrien Lemaire.

Some want a quiet place to work before picking up their children from school, others are tired of telecommuting from their sofa and want a change of scenery.

Finally, some, like freelancers, find there a coffee substitute for their professional meetings.

A promising health context

Quickly the start-up would like to take the next step "

By 2022, we are targeting 200 cabins installed",

table Adrien Lemaire.

An optimism justified by the current situation and the rise of teleworking.

However, the health crisis would also seem to constitute a brake, in particular for hygienic reasons.

Consumers will they not see in these cabins a privileged place of contamination?

No need to worry, says Adrien Lemaire, who explains that “

between each use, a cabin regeneration time

” (for two and a half minutes) allows the air to be filtered.

After this operation, the air is healthier inside than outside the cabin,

” he says.

In addition, teams come there to clean daily.

For Monoprix, the reception of these cabins is part of the strategy that the brand has initiated in recent years: transforming its stores into real places of life.

We went to see the store manager to see what happens.

She welcomed the thing very positively, ”

says the young entrepreneur.
