The Department of Theaters and Music at the Ministry of Culture has launched a theatrical text competition, both of which are directed to children and adults, provided that the texts participating do not win any local or foreign awards and are not published in a book.
Regarding the competition, Imad Jalloul, Director of Theaters and Music at the Ministry of Culture, said in a statement to SANA: “This competition is part of the ministry’s plan to activate the cultural movement and encourage writers to present new texts to stimulate the theatrical movement and enrich the Syrian theater library with works of a high level of creativity while allowing the opportunity to discover new talents. In this literary genre ”.
The announcement of the competition stipulates that the number of words for the participating text directed to children should not be less than 1500 words, and the text intended for adults should not be more than 2000 words, and that it should be written in the classical language, with permission to quote from fictional, story or theatrical texts, provided that the text is attached to the original from which it is quoted.
An electronic copy of the shared text will be submitted with three hard copies to the Office of the Theaters and Music Directorate until May 2, along with a copy of the personal identity of the writer, who must not exceed his birth in 1976. Each writer has the right to participate with one text for adults and another for children.
The winner of the first place in the competition will win 500 thousand Syrian pounds, the second 350 thousand pounds, and the third 200 thousand. The winning texts will be published in the Theatrical Life magazine and will be included in the directorate's work plan to produce them and turn them into theatrical performances.
