Recently, a district councillor discovered a suspected illegal valet parking incident on the ground floor of Shun Tak Centre, Sheung Wan. After checking with the Lands Department, they found that the land lease on the road near the sea did not allow parking, but many vehicles were parked at the scene.

A few days ago, the district councillors inquired about the incident to Shun Tak Center, but the other party denied the incident, which also indicated that they did not know that the Lands Department had notified them of the relevant matters.

District councillors described the above-mentioned illegal parking as a historical problem. Last year, they began to actively communicate with relevant stakeholders, hoping to solve the problem, but to no avail.

He was worried that too many illegal parking at the scene would affect pedestrians and accidents would happen at any time.

After consulting the Lands Department and checking the land lease, it was discovered that the land lease did not allow the land to be used for parking purposes.

He also quoted a reply from the Planning Department stating that only the upper car park of Shun Tak Centre and the adjacent Rumsey Street multi-storey car park are designated parking locations.

Sima Wen pointed out that the Lands Department stated in October last year that it had notified the owners of Shun Tak Centre that vehicles parked under the building violated the lease terms and requested the centre to take action to remove vehicles. At that time, the vehicles parked in the west wing of Shun Tak Centre were cleared. Go, but there are still many vehicles parked on the ground of the East Wing China Merchants Building.

District councillor filmed a film to question the security of the notice on the car: do a show and take a closer look

According to the video provided by Sima Wen, he inquired about the purpose of the notice by the security guards at the scene, but the security only kept repeating: "No, no shelf, no money collected", "Do a show and watch the old man carefully", and was asked How can I park the car there? The security responded that the staff of the club and clubhouse members can enjoy the above-mentioned services.

Afterwards, Sima Wen asked the parking staff. The parking staff pointed out that there is no charge for parking there. You only need to provide a receipt for dining nearby to enjoy free valet parking service.

However, when I asked who the parking clerk was employed, the other party actually stated that he was not employed by anyone.

District Councillor: Shun Tak Centre and Macau Jockey Club deny involvement in the valet parking incident

Sima Wen contacted Shun Tak Center and Macau Jockey Club afterwards, both of which denied any involvement in the valet parking incident.

The Macau Jockey Club even stated in a written reply that the parking man was not a staff member of the club, so the club did not know that the vehicle was parked there.

The Shun Tak Center responded by telephone, stating that they had not received notification from the Lands Department and denied the allegations.

Illegal parking and occupation of land cause conflicts between people and vehicles

The reporter arrived at the ground floor of Shun Tak Center in the afternoon of the 25th. There were no vehicles parked in the west wing. However, there were at least a dozen cars parked in the east wing. The traffic "submerged" half of the road and stretched along the footpath. Several cars were put on top of the road. There are notices reminding car owners not to park their cars there.

A security guard at the scene asked the reporter if he would come to pick up the car, and even instructed the reporter to go to the illegal parking direction.

The parking staff who appeared in the Sima Wen fragment continued to work in the back alley that day. It is believed that the valet parking service still exists, but the car keys, number books and stop signs seen in the fragment did not appear at the scene.
