The popular content platform Tiktok announced today (Wednesday 13.1) that it will change the account settings of community members aged 13-15 and they will now be set to private by default.
This means that in these accounts (defined as "private"), only members approved by the account holder will be able to watch the videos he or she creates.
Tiktok notes that the change stems from the overall approach Tiktok takes that aims to ensure that younger community members can actively decide whether they want to open their account to the public and make informed choices about the content they choose to share, and with whom they choose to share it.
The new changes for community members aged 13-15 - as mentioned, from now on their accounts will be set as private by default.

These changes are in addition to Tiktok's latest security and privacy updates such as restricting the sending of live messages and live broadcasts to accounts of 16 and under, as well as restricting the purchase, sending and receiving of virtual gifts to users 18 and under.
In addition, Tiktok recently announced the expansion of the parental control function that allows greater control over their children’s user experience or the accounts linked to their account.
Elaine Fox, Head of Privacy Tiktok Europe: "When it comes to protecting our community members and their privacy, we can never say 'we have reached our goal'. Our investment in this important issue will not stop here and we will continue to expand and refine our policies. We work together Work closely with regulators and experts in the field of network usage safety and invest in technology and the education of our teams so that Tiktok remains a safe place where everyone can express their creativity.
