Promo "For her, heroes fly" (Arch 12)
The series "Echo3", the American adaptation of Apple TV Plus of the Israeli series "For her heroes fly" created by the Oscar winner Mark Ball ("The Load of Pain"), went on the air - and received rather lukewarm reviews.
The action-packed thriller takes place in South America and follows Amber Chesborough, a brilliant young scientist who is the emotional heart of a small American family.
When Amber goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother and her husband - two men with extensive military experience and a complicated past - struggle to find her.
Starring Mikiel Haussmann (Dario Naharis from "Game of Thrones"), Luke Evans ("Beauty and the Beast") and Jessica Collins (known from small roles in films such as "Dawn Watch" and short-lived series such as "Revolution").
The Guardian gave the series three stars, and sarcastically described the series as "a combination of The Deer Hunter, Brothers in Arms and East Enders."
In the review, most of which was devoted to describing the intricacies of the plot, they protested the "cultural colonialism" of the script, "from which we are supposed to identify with the psychological dramas of the Western heroes when they face others."
The New York Post didn't fall off their feet either, and attributed the flaws in the series to the lack of experience of Ball, a respected screenwriter, in the field of television.
"It seems that way. The progression often feels clumsy and the focus is scattered. Ball's skills are better suited to a two-hour movie than a ten-episode series," reads the review that appeared on the site, which also commented that even though the series deals with various contrasts between the two protagonists, America and the world and themes of addiction and drug trafficking and the nature of the war - "she doesn't offer any significant insight into any of these issues before clearing her throat and moving on to the next action scene."
Along with this, the website stated that nevertheless "there is still a lot to like" in the series, and noted the "solid" acting, mainly by Luke Evans;
the sense of tension and urgency of the plot;
and the action.

AV CLUB gave the series a grade of C+, stating that although it is an "ambitious, multilingual series that tries to combine elements of an action thriller with elements of action thrillers alongside military, political and survival dramas", "in the end, and much to the frustration , the whole of the series is less than the sum of its parts."
In the review, we noted that the greatest strength of the series is its ability to "create action sequences that make you feel like you are right inside an active combat zone or a dangerous neighborhood", and complimented Evans and Collins as well, but commented on the construction of the main characters, and also emphasized that "there does not seem to be a particularly in-depth investigation of mourning or of post-trauma" compared to the Israeli "for her heroes fly".
