A day in the life of bus driver Shermine Isabella (@charsbusbanter)
Shermine Isabella, 26, from the UK, is a young bus driver who has had to deal with existing stereotypes about bus drivers for 6 years.
In a series of short videos she posts on her ticks talk page (charsbusbanter) she talks about unpleasant situations she encountered during her work as a driver, when she mostly has to deal with the incessant reference to her appearance and being a woman - with 93% of UK bus drivers being men.
According to her, passengers criticize her for being made up and ask her "Who are you trying to impress? You are just a bus driver."
On the other hand, when she is not wearing make-up, people say to her: "Do you look tired, do you sleep well at night?".
Shermain also said that many people remark to her that she is "too pretty" to be a bus driver and when she asks them what a typical bus driver looks like, they usually answer her: "old, bald and nervous".

However, passenger reactions are not the hardest thing about her job.
She explained: "The truth is, the fact that you can not go to the bathroom when you have to go to the bathroom is difficult, especially for women. It is a basic human right."

On Instagram she also shared that the best part of her job is being alone all day without managers telling her what to do, however she admits that sometimes it also makes her feel lonely.
When asked what the craziest thing one of her passengers did, she recalled: "A passenger defecated on the bus and smeared the feces on the seats. It was awful."

She has amassed more than 820,000 followers on Tiktok - while it is unclear how many are really interested in the content related to her bus, and how many follow her just because of her looks, but Shermine N. shares them in videos explaining common bus problems, including why they are always late and why not pay in cash .
