The consumption fee increases to 1.55 euros per cubic meter, and the basic fee is also affected: Königsdorfer have to spend more money on water.

Königsdorf – No, the head of the town hall, Rainer Kopnicky (CSU), was not happy about having to increase the water price in his community.

“None of us like that, especially in these times.

But there is no getting around it.” Most of his local council saw it the same way.

Against the votes of Sebastian Seidl and Susanne Schwaighofer (both CSU), the council decided on Tuesday to increase.

It is valid for two years from January 2023.

The special feature: The administration has dealt with both factors, the consumption and the basic fee, on the advice of the new treasurer Regina Bentz.

She received confirmation from the Bavarian Municipal Council that this was the right way to go.

As a result, this means that the consumption price in Königsdorf will be adjusted moderately, from 1.40 euros per cubic meter of water to 1.55 euros.

The jump in the basic fee, on the other hand, is larger: up to 5 cubic meters is increased from 12 to 46 euros, up to 10 cubic meters from 17 to 74 euros and over 10 cubic meters from 24 to 140 euros.

You have to know that the majority of citizens fall into the first category.

There are very few bulk consumers over 10 cubic meters.

It's mostly farmers.

Water is becoming more expensive: State "ruthlessly" shown - deficit of 120,000 euros per year

Bernhard Woisetschläger praised the treasurer for having shown the current situation so "relentlessly".

He complained that a lot had apparently been missed in the past.

“You almost have to blame the past administrations for that.

A deficit of 120,000 euros a year: You must not get into this situation.” Mayor Rainer Kopnicky explained that in previous terms of office it had been politically desirable not to increase the water price.

Due to the construction of the ultrafiltration system in Wiesen required by the health department, there was a “shortfall”.

However, they did not want to raise the price because for a long time only chlorinated water could be made available to the citizens.

Luise Seemayer (CSU) also pointed out these motives.

"If you like, I was also to blame." Her party colleague Sebastian Seidl, on the other hand, pointed out that the decisions in the past had "always been unanimous".

First increase after more than 20 years: water price in Königsdorf increases

As Managing Director Andreas Baumann pointed out, there was also the option of keeping the basic price.

But: That would have meant an increase in the consumption price from 1.40 euros to 1.73 euros per cubic meter – and hardly anyone wanted that.

Georg Stöckl (UBL), for example, found that it was essential to increase the basic price again after more than 20 years.

"It's beyond good and evil." But it also makes sense to set an incentive to save by increasing the consumption price.

"There has to be an awareness that water is not an infinitely available commodity," he explained.

It is not acceptable to simply let the hose run for convenience, this applies to private individuals as well as to farmers.

Andreas Weber-Rothschuh (UBL) thought that the time of "municipal gifts should be over".

It is right to increase the water price.

"It's just been made too friendly for too long."
