He told Clarín to Agustina Vila, the head of the Buenos Aires Schools Directorate. She began to have meetings with mayors to evaluate particular cases. There are more than 55 thousand students who lost the link with the schools.

Six months and a week after the suspension of activity in schools and with an index of infections by COVID 19 that is reluctant to give way in the province, the educational authorities can only offer one certainty today: There is no scheduled date for the return of face-to-face classes in the Buenos Aires territory.

Buenos Aires presents differentiated views of the impact of the pandemic.

Greater Buenos Aires, which still concentrates 88% of the positive cases that are added every day, appears far from the reopening of the classrooms.

The Minister of Education of the Nation, Nicolás Trotta, reiterated this Sunday:

"The epidemiological conditions are not in place to take that step in the metropolitan area

,

" he

said.

But

what could happen in the deep pampas, in municipalities that have not detected infections?

There are three municipal governments that for now remain undefeated from the attack of the plague:

Rauch

(276 kilometers from La Plata, near Tandil);

Adolfo Alsina

(650 kilometers southwest) and

General Pinto

(on the border with La Pampa).

They are localities with less than 15 thousand inhabitants and with establishments that do not exceed 400 students in their enrollment.

"There is no possibility of return in any district. If the activity is incorporated in one of those cities, there may be teachers who move from one district to another and transmit the virus. We cannot risk it," the Director General of Schools told Clarín from Buenos Aires, Agustina Vila.

In recent days, the Axel Kicillof government felt pressure from some opposition mayors who propose "alternatives to regain a certain normality" in the educational system.

On Thursday, variants presented by the mayors of San Miguel, Tres de Febrero and La Plata entered the cabinet office.

"After talking with directors of state and private schools, we submitted a proposal to the Province so that 6th year students, who are now finishing their school year, can return to carry out activities in the establishments, with strict protocols," explained the chief community of San Miguel, Jaime Méndez.

Julio Garro, a native of La Plata, proposed to create spaces in the Children's Republic for "school socialization" activities.

Vila received a dozen district chiefs, all from the suburbs, including those who asked to advance a step in the reopening of institutes.

"The return requires that community circulation be low or nil. This will be progressive and with epidemiological standards that allow us to travel a safe path," was the minister's statement.

In other words: for now the answer is no.

The pull with opposition mayors replicates the open controversy in the City of Buenos Aires, where the Buenos Aires government intends to reopen educational spaces for some 6,500 students who were unable to connect and have lost the opportunity to continue learning at a distance.

In the Province, Vila acknowledged that

there are more than 55 thousand students "disengaged from schools

.

"

They are from the initial, primary and secondary cycles.

But the Buenos Aires administration rules out a variant like that of CABA's colleagues.

"For those who could not maintain contact with their teachers or had problems -connectivity or resources- a daily and permanent job is done by directors, teachers and provincial authorities," explained the minister.

At these three levels, Buenos Aires has more than 3.7 million students.

"The rate of disengagement from school as a result of the pandemic is 1.5 to 2%," acknowledged Vila.

That is, the total number could reach 74 thousand children and adolescents who at some point in the quarantine of more than six months were disconnected from their educational reference.

“The educational and affective impact left by the pandemic is undeniable beyond the immense work that is being done to maintain pedagogical continuity.

We all long to return to face-to-face classes because we understand that the face-to-face meeting at school is irreplaceable and one of our priorities, "explained the Director of Schools to the mayors.

But he admitted that it is key to have a clear discourse for the community, so as not to generate false expectations.

"We have to tell parents today that there is no date to return to school," he assured Clarín after the meeting.

Unlike what happens with CABA,

in Province the authorities have the support of the unions.

40 days ago, the Secretary General of Suteba, Roberto Baradel, announced that "until there is a vaccine we cannot think about going back to school as it was until before the coronavirus."

The Kirchner leader who supported Kicillof's nomination considered that "the presence implies a mobilization of very large people, young and old, to the schools. It would be contradictory with the message of reducing the movements promoted by the government."

Now, the secretary of that union, María Laura Torres, told this newspaper that "in order to begin to advance on this path, in principle, the ministers of Health must speak and define the epidemiological reality of Buenos Aires and after each city, because the province it has different phases. "

Mirta Petrocini, president of the FEB, explained that

"serious work must be done to go towards being present

. Every day we study protocols and alternatives to return with responsibility. But we need the government to guarantee safety conditions for teachers and for the students".

Regarding the students who lost contact with the school, Torres pointed out against the administration of María Eugenia vidal: "now we all know that if the program to connect equality, which was much more than handing over a computer, would have remained a policy state for the last 4 years today we would be in a more favorable scenario to work on pedagogical continuity ".
