The inhabitants and authorities of the Mediterranean coastal regions are insufficiently prepared for the possibility of a tsunami.
This is the worrying observation that several experts on the subject sketched on Tuesday during a press briefing organized at the headquarters of Unesco in Paris.
However, the risk is real in the coming decades, say the scientists.
Several destructive tidal waves have swept through the region over the last century, such as in Nice, submerged in 1979 by a wave of two to three meters, a disaster that claimed eleven victims.
An exercise was also carried out on Monday at the airport by the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture to counter a new tragedy.
