(S+) Cum-Ex affair: when will it be dangerous for Olaf Scholz?

2022-08-19T04:05:40.178Z

Olaf Scholz has to appear before a committee of inquiry in Hamburg today. It's about the tax refund for a private bank. And the question of whether politicians have turned a blind eye.

Olaf Scholz has a problem.

New investigations raise old questions about a scandal from his time as Governing Mayor of Hamburg.

The focus: The Warburg Bank and the back and forth about an interim tax refund of 47 million euros.

A committee of inquiry in Hamburg also wants to know whether the bank received political support.

SPIEGEL editor Ansgar Siemens says in the podcast: "There is no evidence that Olaf Scholz had any influence.

But one thing is clear: there are unanswered questions and he plays a strange role in them.«

Why does 200,000 euros in cash in a safe deposit box have anything to do with these questions?

And will the investigation become a dangerous problem for Scholz?

You will hear that in this episode of SPIEGEL Daily.
