Tokyo-Sana
The death toll from Typhoon Hagbis, which swept across large parts of central and eastern Japan, has risen to at least 58.
"The death toll from the typhoon has so far reached 58 dead and 211 injured, while 14 others are still missing," NHK quoted Japanese authorities as saying.
Earlier reports said 33 people were killed by the typhoon that hit south of Tokyo on Saturday and swept through central Japan with strong winds and heavy rain.
Japan is hit by about 20 typhoons every year. A typhoon that hit the country in early September killed two people and caused significant material damage.
