(CNN) - A tornado that landed in North Dallas left more than 100,000 without power, while the strong storm system lashes parts of the Great Plains.
Police went door-to-door in Dallas areas on Monday morning in search of people who may have been trapped in their home after the tornado damaged buildings, ripped trees and broke utility posts in half, KTVT reported. , affiliate of CNN.

The National Meteorological Service confirmed that the tornado landed around 9:30 pm this Sunday.
According to the Dallas City Office of Emergency Management, three people were transported to local hospitals with storm-related injuries that were not fatal.
On Monday morning, more than 100,000 customers were without power in the Dallas / Fort Worth metropolitan area, power company Oncor said.
Six schools throughout the Dallas Independent School District canceled classes on Monday due to the extensive damage suffered by some of the campuses during the storm, the district tweeted.
There are no preliminary ratings of the damage and power of the tornado, the weather service said, adding that it will conduct investigations on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the line of storms responsible for the tornado threatened parts of the plains with a more severe climate.
The weather service issued a tornado alert for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas until 10 am Monday.

Texas is not yet out of danger. A line of storms was moving east-southeast at 80 to 88 kilometers per hour on Monday morning, the weather service said.
They threatened with winds of 72 kilometers per hour, small hail, lightning and up to 5 centimeters of rain, possibly flooding low areas, the service said.
"Stay protected until the storms have passed," they warned.
