Michelle Reaves, who wanted to help another family as a surrogate mother, died during childbirth.

(CNN) - A mother of two children who acted as a surrogate mother of another family, died during childbirth, according to a page on GoFundMe created to help the family.

Michelle Reaves, described as a “mom, wife and beautiful soul,” died last week due to complications during childbirth.

"Although the baby was safe, Michelle didn't," according to the page.

“Michelle had the best, most sarcastic and funny personality and always made you laugh,” wrote Jaime Herwehe, a close friend of the family and organizer of the campaign. "Michelle and Chris have two beautiful children, Gage and Monroe, for whom my heart is broken, knowing that they will not grow old with their mother."

CNN contacted the family but did not want to comment.

After Reaves and her husband gave birth to their own children, they decided to help other families have babies, according to GoFundMe. This was the second time Reaves was a surrogate mother of the same family.

Donations will cover funeral costs and help Reaves' husband and two children.

"You hear that these things happen all the time, but you never imagine what will happen to you ...," Herwehe wrote on the page.

"No one deserves to lose their mother so young or the mother of their children."
