(CNN Spanish) - A court in the southern district of Florida summoned the legal representatives of Amazon.com, the US e-commerce company, after US citizen Daniel A. González filed a civil lawsuit on September 26 against the company.

According to a statement from Gonzalez's legal team, Amazon benefited from the sale of coal that is produced on originally private property that was confiscated from its owner after the establishment of the communist regime in Cuba.

Marabou-type coal is produced on the land. As explained in the statement, Amazon sells on its website the coal they take from the land that is being sued.

“Mr. González, a descendant of the original owner, owns the title of 2,000 acres (809 hectares) of land in the province of Oriente de Cuba. The land is used to produce marabou coal for export to the US, ”the statement said.

CNN contacted Amazon, but the company chose not to comment.

The plaintiff accepted title 3 of the Helms Burton Act, which allows US citizens to sue companies that benefited from the use of private property that was confiscated by the
Cuban government from 1959.

Another company, FOGO Charcoal, based in Miami, was also included in the lawsuit by, according to Gonzalez's legal team, would also have benefited from the property confiscated from Gonzalez.

According to González's legal team, "The total damages requested for the case are substantial given the size and value of the expropriated land."

CNN has made several attempts to communicate with FOGO Charcoal, without success at the moment.

According to Florida court documents, to which CNN had access, both companies have 21 days since they receive the lawsuit to respond to the plaintiff.

Last Wednesday, American Airlines and Latam Airlines were sued by a Miami resident who claims to be the legitimate owner of the José Martí International Airport in Cuba. The plaintiff claims
These two airlines have not paid any compensation to their family for the use of the José Martí airport since they began operations on the island.

American Airlines said in a statement that its operations at the José Martí airport are authorized by the US government and therefore are exempt from the provisions of the Helms Burton law.

CNN contacted LATAM Airlines but declined to refer to this case at the moment.
