The Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Hossam Eddin Ala, stressed that the gross and systematic violations of human rights and international humanitarian law have been the most prominent feature of more than half a century of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the Syrian Golan.
Ambassador Ala said that Syria calls on the member states of the Human Rights Council to adopt serious measures to ensure the implementation of the Council's resolutions and to force the Israeli occupation authorities to comply with their legal obligations and hold them accountable for the crimes they commit and their continued violations of the rights of the Palestinian people and the occupied Syrian Golan.
Syria condemns plans to expand Israeli settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan, build new settlements and transfer 250,000 settlers to the Golan in order to change the demographic composition of the region in flagrant violation of international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Ambassador Ala continued: Syria renews its demand for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and from the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, and from the remaining occupied Lebanese territory, and stresses the lack of recognition of any legal situation arising from the Israeli occupation authorities violations of peremptory norms International law.
