(CNN) - A total of seven people were killed during the protests in Santiago, Chile, according to a televised press conference offered by Interior Minister Andres Chadwick on Sunday night. Early Sunday, the government said three people died in a supermarket fire in the San Bernardo commune. It has not been detailed how the four additional people died.

"We have seen an escalation of violence and vandalism today," he said. "(We) will do everything possible to bring peace to our citizens."

The Interior Minister said 152 people were arrested and more than 40 acts of looting were reported during Sunday's protest.

The government has recognized a total of seven deaths in the seven days of protests over the increase in the transportation proposal in the country and has extended the state of emergency amid protests in the capital.

The Chilean Senate is expected to hold a special session on Monday to discuss the termination of the proposed price increase for the public transport ticket according to the Chilean Senate's Twitter account.
