The French politician and president of the Hauts-de-France regional council, Xavier Bertrand, wrote on Twitter that the fight against anti-Semitism, which still exists in 2019, should not be abandoned.

Pensées aux victimes de l'attaque lâche d'une synagogue à #Halle en ce jour de #YomKippour et solidarité avec le peuple allemand

Le combat contre cette haine antisémite, qui tue encore en 2019, ne doit jamais cesser.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office took over the investigation shortly after the gunfire was announced. A speaker justified this with the "special meaning of the case", to be determined because of murder. This is about "the internal security of the Federal Republic of Germany".

The exact background of the deed remained as unclear as the identity of a suspect, the police could arrest. The statements of the chairman of the Jewish community, Max Privorozki, however, pointed to an anti-Semitic background.
