The traction pole branch of UNSA-RATP wants a “dead day” in transport this Monday. But unions are divided on the

"Dead day" in Parisian transport. This is the objective proclaimed by the UNSA-RATP pole traction and three other unions for this Monday, February 17. That day will be held the first day of the examination of the pension reform project, in session, in the National Assembly.

After a conflict of more than 45 days in December and January, what to expect? Traffic forecasts for Monday will be communicated this Saturday by RATP. One thing is certain: the union front at the management appears very divided on the modalities and the calendar of actions.

The CGT prefers to concentrate its forces on the mobilization day on February 20

The UNSA-RATP pole traction, powerful branch of the first union of the management, was joined by SUD, FO and Solidaires. But the CGT, the second representative union at the RATP, did not call a strike on Monday. She prefers to concentrate forces on the day of interprofessional mobilization on Thursday, February 20.

As for the CFE-CGC, the third representative union at the RATP, it has also dissociated itself from the initiative of the UNSA-RATP traction center.

"The list of declared strikers is growing day by day"

Under these conditions, in the middle of the school holidays, what level of disruption is possible? “We are following what the GAs have decided. We want to make a difference. The list of declared strikers is growing day by day. There will be repercussions on traffic, that's for sure, ”says Jean-Marc Judith, UNSA-RATP delegate and metro driver. But he recognizes it: the context is not conducive to a paralysis of the network, as during the strikes in September and December.

In question, according to the UNSA-RATP traction pole: the strategy of the CGT and other organizations, which prefer "to multiply interprofessional days which are useless and tire the agents".

For its part, the CGT-RATP judges that the UNSA is the wrong strategy: "Even if Monday, February 17 is a symbolic date on the parliamentary agenda, it is not conducive to the "widening struggles and strikes in other parts of the country," she wrote in a leaflet.

He added: "Internal dissidence within the UNSA-RATP must not bring the workers' division to the RATP". A way of underlining the sometimes contradictory lines which coexist within the UNSA-RATP and its branch "Pole traction".

The two unions were neck and neck in the last professional elections, in 2018. In the midst of this fragmented union landscape and this battle of calendars, the thousands of workers who come out of a strike of more than 45 days sometimes have to hard to navigate. "I can't afford to go on strike anymore, so I'm working on Monday," says Myriam, a bus driver. However, I will be at the demonstration on February 20. "

Two movements three days apart, which risks reducing the impact of these mobilization days all the more.
