Car toll: scouring entangled in contradictions

2019-09-27T10:11:13.308Z

Transport Minister Scheuer defended two secret meetings on his failed toll so far as "not secret". But according to SPIEGEL information, his ministry has no files or records about it.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer has concealed the Bundestag of the nature of two confidential meetings with the managers of the operating consortium for the failed car toll.

When the SPIEGEL reported on these secret meetings last week, the ministry was still weighing down. This Wednesday, the CSU politician Scheuer stressed in front of Parliament: These dates were "not secret" and "normal" had been.

But the ministry had to give up this position. For Scheuers Ressort apparently has no records or records of the two meetings in November 2018 and June 2019, according to SPIEGEL.

A Ministry spokesman stated on demand that "neither preparatory nor follow-up notes" had been prepared on the dates.

After the negative judgment of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) on the car toll Scheuer had made more than 50 files available to the transport committee of the Bundestag. In it, however, found no evidence of the secret meetings.

The Green MEP Sven-Christian Kindler considers the lack of bargaining for a breach of the law. "For me, this just allows the conclusion that the minister wanted to cover up something again." Once again Andreas Scheuer deliberately lied to the Bundestag, "he says in SPIEGEL.
