CSU is apparently considering fight

2019-08-30T05:25:21.436Z

The CSU wants to announce the low cost airlines according to a report the fight - with a penalty tax on too cheap tickets. The idea rejects the aviation officer of the Federal Government, however.

The wages of employees low, the burden on the climate high: low-cost airlines have long been in the criticism. According to a report, the CSU regional group in the Bundestag intends to use a "competitive price tax" to curb the sale of dumping tickets in Europe.

Flights that cost less than 50 euros, should be subject to a penalty tax, according to the "Bild" newspaper, according to a paper for the autumn exam of the CSU National Group in the Bundestag next Tuesday. Country Group chief Alexander Dobrindt told the newspaper: "I want climate protection instead of competitive prizes." 9-euro tickets for flights in Europe have nothing to do with either market economy or climate protection. "We want genuine freedom of choice in terms of mobility through sustainable pricing of offers."

Tax on tickets under 50 euros?

The CSU national group would therefore introduce a minimum price for airline tickets, according to newspaper data in the paper. Dobrindt told the paper: "Flying needs a minimum price and train driving a VAT reduction." Who offers airline tickets below 50 €, will pay in future a competitive price tax. "

The Federal Government aviation officer, Thomas Jarzombek, rejects the demands of the CSU for a punitive tax on cheap flights in Europe, however. The politician from the EU partner CDU told the news agency dpa: "We have agreed in the coalition agreement not to increase taxes and it must also be carefully examined whether such a rule does not mean that airplanes just fly emptier and lose people on a low-income mobility, without that CO2 is saved. " In addition, the entire issue of aviation taxation should be regulated uniformly throughout Europe in order to avoid avoidance effects.

Söder wants tax rebate for climate protectors

Accordingly, instead of a fight price tax, other ways have been discussed so far to contain cheap flights. Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had demanded the exemption of train tickets from VAT. The Greens, for their part, had demanded a complete cancellation of subsidies for air traffic. A CO2 tax, which is based on the respective emissions of a mode of transport, is also under discussion - and could also make flying more expensive. So now the proposal of the fight price tax.

But that's not all. Söder has already presented another idea in the "Augsburger Allgemeine" on how Germany should become more climate-friendly. He has demanded a climate tax bonus for all citizens. "Climate protection measures are to be fiscally promoted up to a sum of 10,000 euros," he said. As with the craftsman's bonus, every citizen should be able to deduct 20 percent of the costs directly from the income tax, for example by saving energy with a new heating system.
