(CNN) - An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 shook eastern Turkey this Friday night, reports the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake was shallow (10 km deep), which increased the feeling of surface tremor.
According to the USGS, about 500,000 people felt the earthquake intensely. The earthquake was also felt in several other countries, including Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
According to the initial estimates of the USGS, the damage must be "relatively localized" and "there is a low probability of victims."
