An anarcho-libertarian group claimed responsibility for the arson attack in which the building and 13 vehicles went up in smoke on Monday in

The national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office (PNAT) will not take up the investigation into the arson attack on a depot for Enedis vehicles on Monday, claimed by the anarcho-libertarian movement, the Grenoble prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

The PNAT "informed us on Tuesday morning that it would not take up the investigation concerning Enedis", including a hangar and 13 vehicles were set on fire in Seyssinet-Pariset, a municipality bordering Grenoble (Isère), said Eric Vaillant .

The magistrate had said the day before hoping for this referral in view of the reiteration of similar facts in the Grenoble region for three years and targeting symbolic places or businesses.

Fifteen degradations since 2017

"This is normal institutional functioning," added the Grenoble prosecutor, already affirming that "if other facts of the same type should intervene", he "will renew a request".

The last known referral to the anti-terrorist prosecution for facts related to the ultra-left dates back to the Tarnac case in 2008. This qualification was abandoned after the trial in April 2018, which had released almost all of the eight defendants from the libertarian group in this village of Corrèze and made a severe assessment of the wanderings of the investigation into a sabotage of the SNCF line.

Nearly fifteen degradations or fires of a certain magnitude, and ten others more minor, have occurred in the Grenoble area since spring 2017.

Among the sites targeted, there are barracks of gendarmerie, the hall of the municipal council of Grenoble or a church in the city center, as well as premises of France Bleu Isère and, twice, goods of Enedis. No suspects have been arrested. These crimes are punishable by ten years' imprisonment.

"Difficult investigations"

A wave of searches took place on November 26 in several alternative locations in the Grenoble area and in the Roybon ZAD, erected against a Center Parcs aquatic complex project. Nothing has yet filtered from the result of this operation.

“These are difficult investigations. The perpetrators are particularly careful and vigilant […] We are dealing with a very organized group, ”said Eric Vaillant.

But this time, on the Enedis site, "the arsonists left elements that allow technical investigations," added the magistrate.
