Expansion with electric vans: Post subsidiary StreetScooter plans production in China

You are already running through German inner cities - and soon also through Asia? Post subsidiary StreetScooter wants to expand into China with its electric delivery vans.



It was the surprise success of Deutsche Post The past years: The development of the StreetScooters, a separate delivery van for the city center, bright yellow, electrically operated - and, above all, ready for series production. With the electric transporter, the post office let the German carmaker look quite old, which initially showed no interest in the idea.

Now the company wants to drive the global expansion - and begins the entry into the Chinese market. The manufacturer of electric transporters and the car manufacturer Chery Holding Group plan to jointly develop and produce electric commercial vehicles for China and possibly other countries, the Deutsche Post announced on Friday.

This included local manufacturing and procurement as well as nationwide sales and service. The plan is a gradual entry into the market, for 2021 series production with production capacity of up to 100,000 electric vehicles is planned annually. Perspectively, one would expect a total investment of up to 500 million euros.
