The solidarity surcharge is abolished for most taxpayers from 2021. CDU boss Kramp Karrenbauer now wants to get rid of the levy faster than the Minister of Economics.

By 2025 at the latest, CDU leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer wants to abolish the solidarity surcharge. Thus, it demands a faster end than Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU).

The complete soli-abolition remain on the agenda of the CDU for the next legislative period, said Kramp-Karrenbauer the news magazine "Focus". "It must also be in our next election program." Altmaier had recently submitted a roadmap to completely dismantle the solidarity surcharge by 2026.

Tax relief for companies should be implemented quickly

At the same time, the head of the CDU was in favor of quickly implementing her party's plans for tax relief for companies. "The complete abolition of the SPD has blocked the SPD, which is why we now need a significant reduction in corporate tax, combined with a reduction in bureaucracy."

The Federal Cabinet had approved in August the bill by Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD), which freed from 2021 a good 90 percent of taxpayers from the supplementary levy. For a further 6.5 percent of the surcharge will be melted. Solidarity Pact II expires at the end of the year.
