If you like to drive a car, but are not allowed to get out, the Internet today offers plenty of opportunities to marvel at cars in detail and in action. We made a selection of films.

  • In the Corona crisis *, cars actually experience a small flight because they combine privacy and mobility.
  • But what if the car fan is affected or is in quarantine as a contact person?
  • Fortunately, there are a lot of films and series in which cars play a supporting or at least beautiful role, either streamed or on DVD / Bluray.

Beyond "Fast and Furious" and the hip YouTube car channels, we have selected five offers that are still well known in the particularly affected age group of the so-called boomers.

70s series "Die 2"

If you are in bed or on a couch, you may prefer to consume light fare at the beginning. The 70s series "Die 2" is a good choice. Tony Curtis as American oil millionaire Danny Wilde and Roger Moore as British sprout Brett Sinclair catch bad guys in easily digestible 45-minute snacks and free all kinds of women from predicament. Almost always there: a Ferrari Dino for Curtis and an Aston Martin V8 for Moore. The series offers a lot of chase scenes, often on the then picturesque streets of the Cote d'Azur around Nice and Monaco and funny sayings of sometimes astonishing silliness.

Great prospects with "Le Mans"

Too much chatter? Prefer something where you can keep an eye on the cars for longer? "Le Mans" is a good choice. The classic about the famous endurance race with Steve McQueen * in the leading role from 1970 shines with real racing action between the Gulf-Porsche 917 and a Ferrari 512S and a beguilingly beautiful drive in the Porsche 911 as a multi-minute opening sequence. If you look closely, you will discover a Ford GT 40 in the crowd of spectator vehicles on the way to Le Mans, which was then no longer allowed to participate in the race.

"Harold and Maude": a deeply comedy

A little more depth, but can it still be light? " Harold and Maude ", a jet black comedy from 1971 about the relationship between a depressed 18-year-old from a rich family and a fun-loving 79-year-old lady. Harold prefers to drive hearses to funerals. At one of them he gets to know Maude. Maude and his hearse are horrible to his bossy mother. For her birthday, she gave him a beautiful Jaguar E-Type Coupé that the artisan Harald converted into what was probably the only E-Type hearse in the world. Spoiler alarm: the car does not survive the film.

"Back to the future" with one

Prefer something funnier? With the 1980s science fiction trilogy "Back to the Future", director Robert Zemickis made a cinematic monument to the hapless Northern Irish gullwing sports car DeLorean DMC-12 . In the film, the two-seater serves as a vehicle for time travel, which brings Michael J Fox alias Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown both into 1955 and into the future of 2015 and the western world of 1885. 2015 saw clearly from the 1985 perspective more futuristic than it really was.

"Specter": Bond action with an Aston Martin DB 10

Would you prefer good action? How about "Specter". The last James Bond to date - the new Bond's theatrical release is being postponed due to Corona - offers the usual action to save the world, this time against the dangers of total surveillance by secret services and bad guys. For car fans there is a spectacular chase ride in which Daniel Craig escapes his bondage in the Jaguar XC75 on the streets of nighttime Rome as Bond in the Aston Martin DB 10 . Of course, the classic DB4 should not be missing and a lot of Range Rover * serve as vehicles for great desert photos.
