Guilty of sexual coercion, not guilty of rape: The Federal Court of Justice has confirmed the judgment of the Landgericht München against the ex-president of the Munich Music School.

He was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison - now the decision is final: The Federal Court of Justice has upheld the judgment of the Landgericht München against the former head of the conservatory. Siegfried Mauser was sentenced in May 2018 for sexual coercion in three cases to a total custodial sentence of two years and nine months.

In the opinion of the district court he had sexually forced a singer between 2007 and 2013 in three cases. Another woman had accused him of rape. Mauser was acquitted of this accusation.

According to the court, the woman had not made her indignation clear enough. In addition, the old sexual criminal law was still valid at the time of the offense. This makes it not only punishable by now who forces sex with violence or threat of violence - it is enough if the offender overrides the "apparent will" of the victim. After the ruling of the district court, both the prosecutor, Mauser and his alleged victim had appealed.

Mauser is one of the best-known German New Music artists. He is a concert pianist, chamber musician and Lied accompanist. He is said to have committed the deeds in his time as President of the Munich Music Academy. In 2014 he was appointed to the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
