France overcame Moldova 2-0 to beat the world champions to a late win and move to the top of Group H.
The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute when the ball came to striker Vadim Rata to put it in the net, but the French team equalized controversially in the 35th minute by Rafael Varan.
Despite a plethora of strikers, France struggled to break Moldova's defense and needed a penalty after a mistake by Olivier Girou in the 79th minute.
France, who face Albania in their last group game, have 22 points, two ahead of hosts Andorra at the end of the qualifiers.
