The local elections take place in Munich in about half a year. Now the SPD has lost a prominent comrade. Their group leader in the city council, Alexander Reissl, changes as an independent member of the CSU. His letter to the party exit after 45 years is already in the mail, said the 61-year-old dpa news agency.
He justified his decision among other things with frustration over the demise of the social democrats, also nationwide. The party is increasingly perceived as dissonant. Personal injury at the local level also played a role.
"Above all, I do not want to be told by people of the same generation that I am the one who should give way to rejuvenation," said Reissl. In the morning he had informed, among others, the Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD).
Previously, such a change was unimaginable
With Reissl get the CSU Group of one of the most prominent and knowledgeable members of the City Council, said the CSU Group Chairman Manuel Pretzl, who is also second mayor. In the past, such a change was unimaginable. Over the past two years, however, the coordinate system in parts of the town hall has shifted dramatically.
Similarly expressed the OB-leading candidate Kristina Frank. The former Minister of Education and current CSU district chairman Ludwig Spaenle promised Reissl in the local elections on March 15, 2020 a promising list place at the CSU. He respects his nonpartisanship.
Reissl was dissatisfied in Munich above all with the action of the Munich SPD in housing and transport policy. Lately, his understanding of his own party has increasingly been lost. He decided above all from a local political point of view. Local politics was characterized by pragmatism most of all political levels.
The Sparkassen employee has been a member of the City Council since 1996 and sits on the supervisory boards of Stadtwerke München and the Municipal Hospital.
