(CNN Spanish) - The Government of Ecuador investigates an alleged massive leak of data from Ecuadorian citizens that would contain banking, personal and property information, among others, as reported by the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo.

The possible cyber intrusion was revealed Monday by the ZDNET portal.

Romo said that it is a "very serious" issue, but that it will not go deeper into the subject at the moment.

The minister indicated that they will determine responsibilities of what would be a violation of citizen data.

Romo did not indicate how many people could have been affected by the alleged leak.

Ecuador has a population of more than 17 million people, according to the latest report of the National Institute of Statistics and Census.

CNN has not been able to independently confirm the information disclosed by the ZDNet site. The portal indicates that it is dedicated to research issues related to information technologies.
