Hong Kong-Sana
Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam called on the United States today not to interfere in the ongoing events in Hong Kong.
"It is absolutely inappropriate for a country to interfere in Hong Kong affairs," Carry Lam told reporters, noting that any change in economic relations with Washington would threaten "mutual interests."
Carry Lam's comments came as protesters in Hong Kong demanded that the US Congress pass a law that would support them and undermine trade relations between Hong Kong and Washington by imposing surveillance measures on local authorities.
Carrie Lam expressed the hope that "no longer will anyone demand the United States to pass such a law."
She stressed that the escalation of violence will not solve social problems in Hong Kong, expressing regret at the interference of foreign parliaments in its affairs.
Last month, China reiterated that Hong Kong's affairs were an "internal Chinese affair," asking US President Donald Trump to keep his promise on the issue and abide by the "one China" principle and that Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China.
