JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian police have arrested 36 people suspected of links to the Islamic State terror group during a crackdown after Wiranto was stabbed by two security men in Banten province, police said on Monday.

Indonesian Special Forces' anti-terrorism units arrested 36 people while pursuing suspects in Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Bali, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gambi and Lampung, police spokesman Mohammad Iqbal said.

The Indonesian security minister was stabbed last Thursday during a visit to the town of Bandunglang in Banten province on the island of Java.

The Indonesian police announced two days ago to thwart a plot to launch terrorist attacks during the inauguration ceremony of Indonesian President Joko Widodo scheduled for next Sunday.

In recent years, Indonesia has witnessed several terrorist attacks adopted by ISIS or associated terrorist groups.
