Launching a project in Lattakia to reduce waste and preserve the environment

The International Youth Chamber in Lattakia launched the “Green It” project as part of a global campaign aimed at achieving a clean world free of waste through partnership between individuals, organizations, youth teams, NGOs and stakeholders.

`` The project aims to raise the sense of responsibility and awareness of local communities in a way that serves the preservation of hygiene and the protection of biodiversity, '' Haitham Shreitah, the local president of the chamber, told SANA.``The issue of the accumulated waste and its impact and the role of NGOs and community members in organizing initiatives to reduce them will be highlighted.

In turn, Nagham Khaddour, Vice-President of the Chamber, explained that the importance of the project comes from its emphasis on raising awareness about environmental issues, urging sustainable solutions to preserve the environment and highlighting the importance of protecting biodiversity in natural and marine reserves and protecting children from health problems. For his part, Hussein Khalil, the director of the Green It project, said that the project consists of three phases. The first phase started yesterday, cleaning the Shuqayfat marine reserve of Jableh city because of its biodiversity and marine diversity as it is home to the breeding of endangered sea turtles. The sea, which is hampered by the large number of waste scattered on the beach, such as nylon bags and plastic containers and others, pointing to the wide participation of 12 different destinations in addition to 125 volunteers of different age groups and the weight of waste collected on a distance 1 km 1800 kg.

Khalil said that the second and third phases include the cleaning of public parks, which are an outlet for a large number of families, especially children, and the installation of waste baskets in a number of them and encourage members of the community to participate in cleaning the gardens in their neighborhoods to provide a clean environment to ensure the protection of their children and safety and will be launched on World Cleaning Day In addition, some areas belonging to the Al-Farnalq Protectorate along the Bloran Dam area were cleaned in partnership with the Al-Farnalq Environmental Development Association in October.

Samah Abbas, Volunteer Coordinator at the Syrian Development Trust, explained that the participation of young people in such initiatives carries a message of strength and resilience and challenges that the Syrians of the future generation are capable of rebuilding their country.
