MOSCOW, (SANA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russian-US relations have deteriorated considerably

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russian-US relations have deteriorated significantly, while expressing his country's readiness to resume dialogue with Washington "in a way that suits the United States at this stage."

In an interview with the Izvestia newspaper published today, Lavrov said: "Relations between Russia and the United States have seriously undermined and this process is unfortunately continuing despite the assurances of US President Donald Trump and his key staff to normalize relations with Russia, but in practice nothing positive has happened." He pointed out that these relationships "maintain a very low dynamic."

"Our American colleagues continue to impose unilateral sanctions without even bothering to make any pretexts, and this contradicts the mood that the US president himself is constantly normalizing relations with Russia," Lavrov said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that the political conflict inside the United States is the main reason behind the deterioration of Russian-US relations, noting that Moscow has never sought confrontation with Washington.

In a related context, the Russian Embassy in the United States announced that Russia is ready to conduct a "full and rapid normalization" of cooperation with the United States on visas.

"The Russian side supports the speedy and full normalization of visa cooperation, as well as its readiness to move forward as far as the Americans are prepared," the embassy said in a statement quoted by Sputnik. "We hope our proposals will be heard in Washington."

The Russian diplomatic mission denied the statements of the US embassy in Moscow that the Russian embassy does not want to issue visas to US consular staff coming to Russia, explaining that this information is "false, misleading and suspicious."

The embassy confirmed that it was Washington that launched the “war of visas”, which seriously complicated the return of diplomatic missions to their normal course.

Russian-US relations have deteriorated in recent years because of different positions on resolving international issues, including the Ukrainian crisis, as well as the United States pursued a policy of domination and interference in the affairs of other countries and non-compliance with international law, which Russia strongly opposes.
