An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Albania followed by dozens of aftershocks.
Many people fled their homes in the capital Tirana and the coastal city of Durres in the wake of the tremor, which injured 105 people and damaged buildings, local authorities said.
It said more than 100 aftershocks followed the tremor, which damaged some 600 homes, cut electricity and damaged the water network in Tirana, Durres and other areas in the west and center of the country.
According to Defense Minister Olta Aksaka, the oil wells were not damaged.
Albania, which lies on the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, is prone to earthquakes and seismic activity is recorded from time to time.
