[Wellington 30th Reuters]-The worst measles epidemic has occurred in New Zealand since 1997, and the government called for caution when visiting the largest city of Auckland.
Health officials released a statement this week saying, “If you come to and from Auckland, make sure you are vaccinated at least two weeks before your visit. Subjects include children older than one year.”
Measles are prevalent worldwide, including rich countries such as the United States and Germany.
According to the state-run Radio New Zealand, 849 cases have been reported in New Zealand this year. Of these, 731 cases occurred in Auckland, and about one third have been concentrated in the past two weeks.
Outbreaks outside of Auckland are limited.
