US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday criticized US Attorney General William Barr's handling of the scandal of US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelinsky as a "rogue" in a new development of the political scandal surrounding Trump after the leaked call.
In an interview with US broadcaster MSNBC, Pelosi said Minister Barr had become a rogue, referring to the Justice Department's handling of a report that revealed Trump had pressured the Ukrainian president to exploit it politically and support his re-election. .
Democrats criticize Barr for not distancing himself from the leak complaint, which came after a telephone call on July 25 between Trump and Zelinski.
Pelosi, who launched an investigation into Trump's accountability on Tuesday, accused the administration of "trying to cover up the leak."
Pelosi also criticized acting US National Intelligence Director Joseph Maguire, saying he had “violated the law” because he had not first informed Congress about his leaked call.
US law stipulates that such complaints are handed to Congress, while Maguire said he first informed the White House because "I think the calls to which the US president is involved may be protected by executive immunity."
The Trump-Zelensky call triggered a resounding political scandal in the United States and the White House was forced to publish its content under pressure from Trump's opponents in Congress and beyond, while Democrats began to examine the possibility of isolating Trump on suspicion of using power, ignoring national security interests and trying to get another country to interfere in the presidential election. .
