2019-10-09T08:26:20.422Z

The communication platform Twitter has used private customer data to play advertising targeted. The infringement was done "accidentally", the company asserted.

Privacy is only as long as an argument how he uses the company. This conclusion could be tempted by the recent case on Twitter. The short message service admitted on Tuesday to have used actually intended for security purposes private user data for advertising. The online company said Tuesday that phone numbers and email addresses for authenticating Twitter accounts were "accidentally" used for advertising. Thus, user data has been matched with that of advertising companies to enable targeted advertising. "That was a mistake and we apologize," said Twitter.

The short message service said the data had not been shared with partners outside the company. How many Twitter users were affected, the company gave no information. The problem was resolved in mid-September. Large online companies such as Twitter and Facebook are always criticized for their handling of private user data.
