Guimarães (dpa) - The victory of Bayer Leverkusen's Europa League opponent FC Porto at Vitoria Guimarães has been overshadowed by a scandal.
A few minutes after his winning goal for 2-1 (1-0) in the 60th minute, goal scorer Moussa Marega left the field and apparently reacted to racial insults, as the newspaper "Diario de Noticias" reported.
Teammates and professionals from host Guimarães tried to calm the Mali soccer player and apparently to persuade them to continue playing, but the upset 28-year-old was unable to persuade him in minutes of excited discussions. Marega was replaced and stuck her thumbs down on the way into the cabin with a view towards the grandstand. Even a seat in his direction had previously flown, media reported. For him, Wilson Manafá entered the field in the 72nd minute.
According to trainer Sérgio Conceição, Marega has been insulted from the Vitoria bank since warming up. "We are a family, regardless of nationality, skin color, size, hair color. We are a family. We are people. We deserve respect."
With the victory, FC Porto reduced the gap to leaders and record champions Benfica Lisbon to just one point. Porto will play the first leg of the sixteenth final in Leverkusen on Thursday (9:00 p.m.)
