Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of the peoples of the region, stressing that the US embargo on his country violates the decisions of the World Health Organization.
Rouhani said during the call that facing the outbreak of the Corona virus is more difficult for Iran than other countries under the embargo, and despite that, the US government violated international law by imposing an illegal ban on it, ignoring the health regulations of the World Health Organization in 2005.
Rouhani said: We expect friendly countries to exert pressure on the United States to lift its unjust and unilateral embargo in these circumstances, pointing out that all countries and governments must realize that they cannot pass this sensitive stage in fighting the Corona epidemic without assistance, cooperation and benefit from each other's experiences.
Rouhani described the initial steps to implement the Instex mechanism for trade with Iran as "positive but not sufficient," noting that this mechanism should not be limited to medical and food products only.
On the other hand, Rouhani cautioned during the call to the danger of some recent American moves in Iraq, stressing Iran’s rejection of any escalation in the region, and noting that the American moves harm the security of Iraq and the region alike.
